Systematic Synthetic Phonics Programme

The Government has announced up to £3,000 of match-funding for all schools with Key Stage 1 pupils so they can buy systematic synthetic phonics products and training for their staff and pupils. This money will provide valuable support to help schools to embed and refine their teaching of phonics, including materials which will help children who need additional support in reading to catch up. Schools will be able to use the match-funding to buy resources from an approved list of products and training that meet the Department's core criteria. The training will be run mostly as delegate courses, although on occasions it is expected that schools may cluster together to make alternative arrangements.

Cambridge Education is one of several approved providers of training with which the match-funding can be spent. As a result we wish, therefore, to recruit a number of associates that are recent, or current, practitioners to assist in the delivery of this work, with the aim to create a number of regional teams. Trainers will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Recent experience of teaching primary children to read
  • Experience of teaching phonics – "Letters and Sounds" scheme
  • Experienced trainer (delegate and in-school)
  • Able to comply with the core criteria underpinning the training and delivery
  • Undergo a "training the trainer" day – including being shadowed and signed off as an accredited trainer
  • Able to work in training "pairs"
