In Egypt Cambridge Education staff provided services in scoping, planning and design.
We also advised on public/private partnerships – financial and how they might work, what the market might bear etc. Five schools were being built simultaneously, and the consultant advised on economies of scale in terms of teacher training, equipping schools efficiently, and how long it would take to produce a relevant curriculum of top-quality.

The consultant involved also gave advice about pupil teacher ratios, required equipment, support staff, advice about how long it would take to recruit suitably qualified staff, basics on building requirements in terms of ratios of pupils to floor area, specialist areas within the school, toilets, outdoor spaces etc. Experience showed that it takes about two years to build a school once the design is agreed, and all planning permissions are granted.

CE can provide advice on the sequences of events needed to design a new school, the timings and costings and ensuring that elements are completed on time. We are able to advise on curriculum requirements that drive space needs and design considerations.

Marketing and brand building strategy is also something that is frequently carried out by CE consultants. In the Egyptian example, the consultant attended numerous meetings with two different organisations that could market the new school system. He advised on what appealed to parents, what students were looking for, the actual brand name, logo, where marketing events should take place etc. Questions of value for money were uppermost at all times.
