This module is designed to equip executive officers with the level of knowledge necessary to apply effective scrutiny, challenge and oversight of all aspects of financial activity.
The initial part of this session will be led by Mazars, a leading national firm of auditors with significant experience in the academy sector. They will cover:
- overview of financial requirements of multi academy trusts
- detailed exploration of the role of the Accountable Officer
- role and purpose of internal and external audit
- procurement regulations and processes
- introduction to risk.
This will be followed by a session led by the Education Funding Agency (EFA) on the financial reporting cycles, the requirements of the EFA, and examples of what is proving to be successful practice emerging across the country.
The final element of this session is from an existing Finance Director of the Bath and Wells Multi-Academy Trust finance teams, to cover responsibilities and structures and “lesson learned” two years in.
